Jay Shah’s tenure as ACC President extended, gets support from other members
Jay Shah has been working as the ACC president since 2021
Indian Cricket Board secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah has gotten a one-year extension in the ACC job. He assumed the role in January 2021. Under his leadership, Asia Cup 2022, which was meant to be played in 2020 but didn’t due to COVID-19. Even though there was a lot of drama during the 2023 edition, the tournament went well.
However, Pakistan media did accuse Shah of using undue influence to remove the Asian tournament outside Pakistan. Notably, the tournament was played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka as India wasn’t meant to be allowed to travel to Pakistan. Meanwhile, after the reappointed with the support of other Asian members, he said that he would continue to remain committed to developing the sport across Asia region.
“I am grateful to the ACC Board for their continued trust. We must remain committed to ensuring the all-round development of the sport with a special focus on regions where it is still in its infancy. The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia,” Jay Shah said in a release.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva said that Shah has been instrumental in unearthing and promoting new talent in different Asian countries.
“Under Shah’s guidance, the ACC has been instrumental in unearthing and promoting new talent in cricketing powerhouses like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka,” Silva said.
Pankaj Khimji, chairman of Oman Cricket and vice-president of the ACC, also extended congratulations on Shah’s term.
“Today, stakeholders see value in investing in tournaments that the ACC conducts, and I credit him for this major transformation, which will further fuel the growth of the game in the region,” Khimji stated.
