Former England skipper lashes out at Jos Buttler for his poor batting performance in the Indian T20 League 2022 final
Former England skipper, Michael Vaughan has come hard on Jos Buttler after the latter failed to produce a match-winning knock in the final of the Indian T20 League 2022 against Gujarat on Sunday. Vaughan reckoned that Buttler was very timid in his approach and wasn’t his usual self in the summit clash.
“I felt Jos Buttler was very timid. He was waiting for the bad ball and wasn’t on the front foot trying to dislodge the bowlers of the length.”
“We did see one ramp shot but we didn’t see him make space and whack it over mid-off. It was almost like they were trying to play safe, trying to reach 150-160,” Vaughan said during an interaction on Cricbuzz.
The former England skipper also said that Rajasthan lacked bravery in the most important clash of their campaign. He further also heaped praise on Hardik Pandya for his outstanding performance both with the bat and ball.
“Rajasthan didn’t seem to play with any kind of bravery. I think they played very timidly. Hardik was excellent, he picked two key wickets, which was a huge bonus for him as a captain.”
“From what I saw from Rajasthan’s point of view, they were afraid to be brave and that can cost you in a final,” Vaughan added.
Talking about the game, Rajasthan batted first after winning the toss and could only manage to score 130 runs at the end of the first innings. Jos Buttler top-scored with 39 off 35 but lacked support from the other end. In reply, Gujarat chased down the score in 18.1 overs.
Shubman Gill played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 45 runs in 43 balls. Hardik Pandya (34 off 30) and David Miller (32 off 19) also made valuable contributions to help the team lift the title in their first ever season.
