Pakistan haven’t yet publicly confirmed their participation in the forthcoming 50-over World Cup, which will be staged in India; however, the schedule was recently made public. Notably, India and Pakistan will face off on October 15 at the iconic Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Following the Indian Cricket Board’s refusal to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the PCB and the Pakistan government expressed their concerns regarding playing in the upcoming World Cup. It seems likely that a decision will be announced shortly.

Owing to the ongoing tensions between these two nations, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has conveyed to the Apex Board and the Indian Cricket Board that government clearance is required before the national team is allowed to participate in the World Cup in October-November of this year.

Notably, India refused to play their Asia Cup matches in Pakistan due to political tensions, and following months of reports, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) revealed that the tournament would be held in a hybrid format with four games in Pakistan along with nine in Sri Lanka (a neutral venue) coming from August 31 to September 17. On top of that, Team India will only play in Sri Lanka.

Our bus was pelted with stones after we defeated India: Afridi

In the same vein, Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi said that the Babar Azam-led squad should compete in the upcoming World Cup held in India later this year. “I am against the boycott of the World Cup. Pakistan should visit India and win the event. I know it is challenging to play over there. We faced difficult times when we travelled to the neighbouring country. Our bus was pelted with stones after we defeated India in the Bangalore Test,” Afridi said, as quoted by CricToday.

Meanwhile, the forthcoming India-Pakistan clash at the World Cup will mark the two nations’ eighth clash in the ODI format. The Men in Blue have prevailed in all of the encounters since 1992.

Look out here at how the fans reacted:
