‘Khwaab me bhi chichde nazar aate hai’ – Fans react as Saeed Ajmal claims Sachin Tendulkar was wrongly given not out in 2011 ODI World Cup semifinal
India beat Pakistan in the 2011 World Cup semifinal to reach the final of the tournament which they won.
India’s great Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest players across different eras. He happens to be the all-time highest-run aggregator in ODIs and Tests. Most of Tendulkar’s records are unbreakable as of now. Meanwhile, in the 2011 ODI World Cup semifinal, the right-hander scored an important 85 against Pakistan. In nearly a 250-plus runs game from either, it was weight its worth in gold.
However, during his innings, he was given out lbw as the former India skipper tried to play across the line. While looking at the replays sans the ball tracker, the ball seemed hitting the stumps. However, the Hawkeye showed that the ball spun enough to miss the stumps. It created an uproar among Pakistani fans as they still feel that it was out. 12 years after this, Ajmal claims that he and the on-field umpire believed that it was out.
“I played in the 2011 World Cup in India. If you could remember the controversial call of Sachin Tendulkar’s wicket. Umpire and I still say he was out. They cut the last two frames to make the ball miss the stumps. Otherwise, it would have directly hit the middle stump,” said Ajmal on Nadir Ali’s podcast.
After playing with Sachin Tendulkar, I realized what it means to play 640-odd games: Saeed Ajmal
The T20 World Cup 2009 winner added that Sachin is a legendary player and after playing with (the MCC game in 2014), he realized what it means to play 640-odd games for India. The former Pakistan player further added that it wasn’t difficult to get Sachin out.
“Sachin. He is a legend. He scored more than 20,000 runs. It is a big thing to take his wicket. When I played with him, I realized what it means to play a match against Sachin. I also played the MCC match with him. He was my team’s captain,” said Ajmal.
“He told me, ‘Show me your doosra’. Legend is a legend. I respect him. But at the same time, it was not tough for me to bowl against him. As a cricketer, I have played two times against Sachin and dismissed him twice.”
