Vijay Shankar speaks about his chances in Indian squad for upcoming World Cup
Shankar has amassed 205 runs in eight matches at an average of 41 in IPL 2023.
Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Vijay Shankar is having a great outing so far in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 32-year-old has shown great form with the bat as he amassed 205 runs in eight matches played so far in IPL 2023 at an average of 41 and an impressive strike rate of 158.91 including two half-centuries.
Shankar helped GT to win many matches this season with his batting. Due to his current, there have been talks that Shankar can make it to the Indian squad for the ODI World Cup that is scheduled to be hosted by India later in the year. Many fans claim that he can be perfect replacement of injured Shreyas Iyer at number 4.
‘I think if you are on the right path, things will happen automatically’ – Shankar
However, Shankar is not thinking of getting into the World Cup squad currently. He believes that things will automatically turn in his favour if he is on the ‘right path.’ Shankar said that currently he is enjoying playing cricket.
“I am not thinking much of it honestly because it’s a long way from here and If I keep doing what I am doing, things will eventually happen. I don’t have to dream of getting into the World Cup team or getting back into the Indian team, I think if you are on the right path, things will happen automatically. I believe in my work ethic, I believe in giving my 100% every time. If I keep doing that, things will happen automatically. I don’t have to have that tag of these things, if it happens, it happens, if it doesn’t, we will enjoy playing cricket,” Shankar told News 18 when asked about his chances in World Cup.
“It’s been pretty good. Have been hitting well, and had a very good domestic season before coming here. Which was very important for me. And then to come here and work on a few things with Gary (Kirsten) and get that going… it’s very important in IPL. For me to do this whenever the team requires is very important. Felt happy while contributing my bit to the team,” he said about his ongoing season with GT.
