‘Bas yehi confidence chahiye zindagi mein’ – Fans unimpressed as India Cricket Team reportedly asks their management to allocate their World Cup matches on spin-friendly surfaces

ODI World Cup 2023 hosts India Cricket Team has requested the board to allocate their games at those venues on which their spinner would get assistance. Talking about the tournament venues, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Rajkot, Indore, Bengaluru, and  Dharamshala being short-listed as venues, even for practice fixtures. Meanwhile, Men In Blue have reportedly allocated their venues out of these.

Talking about the teams in the tournament, eight out of 10 teams have been finalized. Teams who have missed the direct qualification will play in the WC Qualifier tournament. Meanwhile, the hosts of the tournament, who are searching for their first World Championship after 2013 would like to make the most of the home conditions against the likes of England, Australia, New Zealand, etc.

“The Indian team has performed well on slow tracks in the past few years at home. So the team management had requested that whenever the schedule is being prepared the Indian team should face top teams on slow pitches. They wanted to have a home advantage,” a source in the Indian Cricket Board told The Indian Express.

Existing infrastructure will be upgraded before the World Cup: Jay Shah

Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board secretary has announced that the existing cricket infrastructure will be upgraded for the World Cup. An amount of 500 crores INR has been allocated to complete the task. The board will look to concentrate on clean toilets, easy access, and many other things for the tournament.

“All existing infrastructure in the country will be upgraded before the World Cup. Assessment of the stadium has been done to engage with a wider cohort of fans in the IPL and during the World Cup. So upgrading infrastructure will be done during this period,” Shah said.
