Twitter reactions: Captain Kane takes Hyderabad to second consecutive win
Gujarat entered the game after winning three games out of as many played in the tournament
Hyderabad and Gujarat locked horns at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in the 21st game of the Indian T20 League. The former won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, they had a poor start with the ball as their lead pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 17 runs in the first over. Kumar came back strongly in his next over with the wicket of Shubhman Gill (7). Notably, Gill’s catch was taken by a diving Rahul Tripathi at the cover.
In came Sai Sudharsan, who played nicely for his inning of 11 off nine balls before he was caught by opposition skipper Kane Williamson off T. Natarajan. On the last ball of the eighth over, Matthew Wade (19) was trapped lbw by speedster Umran Malik. Skipper Hardik Pandya and David Miller (12) stitched a partnership of 40 runs. The latter was caught by Abhishek Sharma off left-arm pacer Marco Jansen.
In came Abhinav Manohar (35 off 21) and added another 50 runs for the team with Pandya. After being three dropped times in his innings, Manohar was finally caught at long-off by Tripathi in the penultimate over. Skipper Pandya completed his fifty in 42 balls and the team finished at a total of 162/7. For the Orange Army, Kumar and Natarajan took two wickets while Malik and Jansen took one each.
In reply, the 2016 winners started off slowly as the openers, Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson scored 11 runs in four overs. However, they cashed on the last two overs of the powerplay with 14 and 17 runs respectively. The pair went on to stitch a partnership of 64 runs in 8.5 overs before Sharma (42) was accounted for by Rashid Khan. In came Rahul Tripathi, who scored an explosive 17 off 11 balls including a four and a six before retiring hurt with the score reading 104 runs.
Skipper Williamson scored 57 off 48 including four sixes and two fours before he was caught by Rahul Tewatia off Pandya. Nicholas Pooran was dropped on the first ball of the 18th over, bowled by Lockie Ferguson. Pooran took the advantage of the dropped chance as he went on to score 34 not out off 18 balls to win the game for his team by eight wickets.Â

4 days earlier, #SRH looked weakest team in IPL 15 having suffered two big losses. Since then, they’ve beaten defending champs #CSK and tonight handed #GujaratTitans their first defeat this season to open up the tournament. Dare to pick 4 teams for the play-offs at this stage?

Hardik Pandya has done wonderfully well as a bowler so far but his strike rate as batter is something which needs attention. Just 50 runs after 42 balls doesn’t fit nicely with his caliber as striker. #SRHvsGT #IPL2022

First loss for #GT in #IPL2022 and #SRH have managed two wins in a row. They will be hoping Tripathi’s injury is not serious, he is needed in the middle overs. Pooran and Markram finishing games will be key going forward. Captain Kane leading the way tonight though! #SRHvGT
