India vs Sri Lanka 2023
‘Wapas Injured Mat Hona’ – Fans react as Jasprit Bumrah storms into ODI squad for Sri Lanka series
The Indian pacer has been out of action due to injury that ruled him out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian lead pacer, was ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 on the back of an injury and the right-armer was out of action as he was recovering from the deadly injury that saw him stay out of competitive cricket for more than 3 months. As things stand, the senior selection committee on January 3, Tuesday, announced that the senior pacer would make a comeback for the Sri Lanka ODI series.
To add more, the board clarified that the Cricket Academy in Bangalore declared him fit and was added to the squad on the back of the Academy’s clarification. Fans, on the other hand, went over the moon on hearing the same and it remains to be seen if the veteran pacer could make an impact right away with the ball in the ODI series set to get underway on January 10.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has included pacer Jasprit Bumrah in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah was out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the Men’s 20-20 World Cup due to a back injury. The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the Cricket Academy. He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon,” the statement read.
Could India’s pace battery rattle Lankan Lions?
As things stand, the inclusion of Bumrah to the Indian squad for the 50-over internationals against the Island Nation has given a major boost to India’s pace attack, given that the team already have Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj in the camp.
However, one has to agree that Bumrah might not be tried in all of the matches in the series, given that there is a 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place in India later in 2023. Hoping to keep the right-armer fit for the multinational tournament, it is highly likely that the team management would be hoping to rotate the pacers, in order to maintain workload.
As things stand, let us take a look at a few Twitter reactions to Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback:
