Indian T20 League 2023 mini-auction is all set to take place on December 23, in Kochi and the franchises are awaiting the day as they look to revamp their squad and hit the right balance. However, two teams in specific, Hyderabad and Chennai, will look to set things right and make a call for the future of the club.

For the unversed, aged 41, and with matches to be played at Chepauk stadium, MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain, might call it a time in all forms of cricket post the conclusion of the approaching season. On the other hand, the Hydebarad franchise, are yet to take a call on their captaincy as they released Kane Williamson ahead of the auction.

“There is time to take the call on captaincy. I understand this is what the fans want to hear. But it’s a big responsibility. Aiden is capable of leading a team although he hasn’t at the international level. He is also our face in SA20 league. But we will take a call after consulting with the coaching staff soon,” IndieSport quoted an official from the Hyderabad franchise as saying on condition of anonymity.

For now, MS Dhoni is our captain: Kasi Viswanathan

The Chennai franchise, on the other hand, are in a hunt to get the right option for the captaincy role and in all likelihood, Williamson might get roped in from the mini-auction and be given the task to lead the team.

Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of the franchise, said that the former Indian captain will lead the side in the upcoming season and added that they have hopes that he will lead the team to glory in 2023 as well.

“Everybody knows that Thalaiva (Dhoni) will lead the side and he will do his best and the team will do well,” Viswanathan was quoted as saying. A source, from the franchise, revealed that the team will look for options in the mini-auction and the team would take a call after consulting with Dhoni.

“Dhoni could definitely be an asset to Team India even if he is not leading. However, MS hasn’t been approached yet. We will cross the bridge when the time comes. For now, he is Chennai’s captain and a stakeholder. Once there is an official approach from the Indian cricket board, he will discuss,” the source was quoted as saying by IndieSport.

“As far as Chennai captaincy is concerned, MS will take a call after a discussion with the team management. We also have an auction coming up and we will keep our options open for a possible candidate. As things stand, Jadeja is not in plans for future captaincy. But things can change later,” he added.
