‘We hurried him’ – Chetan Sharma makes shocking revelation on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness in lead-up to 20-20 World Cup
Jasprit Bumrah was included in the T20I series against Australia and South Africa before the 20-20 World Cup.
The Indian Cricket Board on Monday announced the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand and the ODI and Test series against Bangladesh. Hardik Pandya will be leading the side in the T20Is against New Zealand while Shikhar Dhawan will captain the ODI team against the same opponents. While announcing the squad, Indian Cricket Board Chief Selector Chetan Sharma made a shocking revelation on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness in the lead-up to the 20-20 World Cup.
The speedster has been out of action since September and was expected to make a return to the side soon. However, his name has been missing from the squads for all four series. Chief Selector Chetan Sharma gave an insight into Bumrah’s fitness and stated that the team management wants to be patient with him and allow him to fully recover. He further said that Bumrah was hurried back into the team before the 20-20 World Cup which made things worse for India.
“He will be back soon. Hoping we will play for India again soon. We hurried Jasprit Bumrah before the 20-20 World Cup and you saw what happened. So we want to be patient now. The NCA team is looking after him well. Right now, we are a little cautious about including Bumrah. When we rest a player, there is a reason behind it,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested from the New Zealand tour which begins on October 19. Rishabh Pant has been named the vice-captain of the squad on the tour in the absence of senior players.
