Indian Cricket Board announces squad for 20-20 World Cup, Sanju Samson misses out
Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have made a return to the team after missing out from Asia Cup due to injuries.
In what comes as major news, India’s squad for the upcoming 20-20 world cup in Australia has been announced. There were no surprising changes in the same after the Asia Cup 2022 campaign, where India were knocked out before the final of the tournament.
Rohit Sharma is all set to lead the Indian team. Seamers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have made a return to the team after missing out from Asia Cup 2022 due to injuries. The selectors have shown faith in wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant despite his disappointing performances in T20Is. Deepak Hooda has also been rewarded for his stunning performances throughout the year with a place in the team.
The most notable inclusion in the backup players was the seamer Mohammed Shami who last played for India in the 2021 20-20 World Cup. Earlier, it was reported that the Indian Cricket Board will not be considering the seamer for the T20 internationals as they wanted to give opportunities to the youngsters in the format.
However, after the dismal show by the seamer Avesh Khan in Asia Cup and the South Africa series in June, the seamer has been brought back into the mix. Shami will be seen back in action in the upcoming T20 series against South Africa and Australia. Sanju Samson couldn’t find a place in the squad as well.
Another inclusion that grabbed everyone’s eyes was the spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who was once again brought back into the squad in the West Indies series in July. Ashwin was also included in the last year’s 20-20 World Cup squad but didn’t get a chance to play in the two important fixtures against Pakistan and New Zealand which India lost.
India had a dismal run in the last year’s 20-20 World Cup where they were knocked out of the tournament before the semi-final stage. The ‘Men In Blue’ have an uphill task ahead of them of winning the coveted World Cup trophy after their early exit from the Asia Cup 2022.
