Any major update on their professional and personal lives becomes front-page news. There have been many instances when the personal lives of our favourite sporting heroes came out in the open. Here’s looking at the five sportspersons whose troubled married life came out in public:

Brett Lee

Brett Lee was one of the fastest bowlers in international cricket. He troubled many great batters with his speedy bouncers and impeccable yorkers. As someone who had a very successful cricketing career, Lee didn’t enjoy the happy moments in his personal life.

In 2006, he married Elizabeth Kemp and had a son with her. Two years later, the pair announced their split and officially separated ways in 2009. The reason behind their divorce was Lee’s inability to spend time with the family as he was busy with his off-season commitments. However, there were rumours that Lee and Kemp separated as Lee found out about another affair Kemp had with a Rugby player in Brisbane. In 2014, the speedster started a new chapter in his life as he married Lana Anderson and the couple now have two children.

Lebron James is one of the legendary players to ever step on the basketball court. Having a successful life on the field, the basketball star was much sought after by many women even after his marriage. The rumours regarding his several affairs came to light right from the start of his NBA career. After marrying his wife, Savannah, in 2013, James was rumoured to be having an affair with Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, Nina Agdal.

According to a report by NBC, James asked a woman for her phone number while on a visit to the White House after Miami Heat’s 2013 Championship win. There have also been widespread speculations of him dating singer Rihanna for a number of years.

Tillakaratne Dilshan

Dilshan was one of the most feared opening batters of his era. He ripped apart many bowling lineups in with his fearsome batting in his playing days. However, his personal life was troubled by none other than his opening partner Upul Tharanga.

Dilshan married Nilanka Vithanage and the couple were blessed with a son named Resadu Tillakaratne. But later on, their married life was in turmoil as his wife had an affair with his opening partner Upul Tharanga. After getting to know about their affair, Dilshan divorced Vithanage.

Following their divorce, Tharanga and Vithanage tied the knot. Dilshan went on to start his life afresh and married the actor Manjula Thilini of Teledrama. The pair is blessed with two daughters and two sons.

David Beckham

David Beckham was one of the most handsome sporting stars of his era. He has been married to pop star-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham since 1999. Their marriage has often made headlines because of several cheating scandals by the footballer.

In 2004, while playing for Real Madrid, it was reported that Beckham had an affair with his personal assistant, Rebecca Loos which was not challenged by either of them. In 2007, Victoria finally came out in public and spoke out about the affair calling it one of the hardest times for their family. The couple has since moved on and is living happily together.

The cricketer has endured a lot in his personal life. Dinesh Karthik was earlier married to his childhood friend Nikita Vanjara. Their marriage was jeopardized as his Tamil Nadu teammate Murali Vijay had an affair with his wife Nikita. In 2012, Karthik got to know about their affair and divorced his wife. During that time, Nikita was pregnant with their first child.

Soon after the divorce, Murali Vijay married Nikita, and the pair currently has a three-year-old kid. In August 2015, Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, married a national-level squash player, Dipika Pallikal.
