India vs Nepal

In the quarterfinals of the Asian Games 2022, India beat Nepal by 23 runs to qualify for the semifinals. Riding on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century, India posted a massive total of 202/4 in 20 overs. However, despite a fightback from Nepal, India clinched the victory as the bowlers did their job.

Earlier, after winning the toss, India skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad opted to bat first. His decision did go well with the team, as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj added 103 runs for the first wicket. Gaikwad, in his innings, scored 25 runs off 23 balls with the help of four boundaries. However, Jaiswal was in a different mood, so he went on with his aggressive batting approach and scored a century.

In his inning, Jaiswal scored 100 runs off 49 balls with the help of eight fours and seven sixes. In the end, Rinku Singh’s cameo helped India cross the 200-run mark. Rinku, in his innings, scored 37 runs off 15 balls with the help of two fours and four sixes. Nepal medium pacer Dipendra Singh clinched two wickets, while Sandeep Lamichhane and Sompal Kami took one wicket each.

Dipendra Singh failed to clinch the game for Nepal

Chasing 200+ runs, Nepal got off to a shaky start as opener Kushal Bhurtel and wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh added 29 runs for the first wicket. Sheikh, in his innings, scored just 10 runs and was dismissed by Avesh Khan. However, after his departure, Nepal soon lost four wickets for a mere 77 runs. The run chase was looking off track, but star allrounder Dipendra Singh had some other plans.

Dipendra started targeting Indian bowlers and added 45 runs for the fifth wicket with Sundeep Jora. However, spinner Ravi Bishnoi got the better of him and gave India a sigh of relief. In the end, Nepal fell 23 runs short of the target as they scored just 179/9 in 20 overs. For India, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi clinched three wickets each, while Arshdeep Singh got two wickets. R. Sai Kishore took a wicket too. With this win, India qualifies for the semifinals of the event.
