After a dramatic win against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans is set to face Chennai Super Kings in qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League 2023. Ahead of the game, Star batter Shubman Gill, who scored back-to-back centuries in the last two games, reacted to Virat Kohli’s heartfelt post.
As GT beat RCB by 6 wickets, the latter’s dream of winning the IPL trophy once again got shattered. Kohli, who gave his all to RCB and scored back-to-back centuries in crucial games, penned down a heartfelt post for his fans. Kohli in his social media post shared a few pictures of the RCB campaign.
“A season which had its moments but unfortunately we fell short of the goal. Disappointed but we must hold our heads high. To our loyal supporters, grateful for backing us every step of the way. A big thank you to the coaches, management and my teammates. We aim to be back stronger. @RCBTweets”, he captioned it.
Reacting to his Instagram post, GT batter Shubman Gill posted three crown emojis representing him as a king. Notably, Gill and his family members received massive backlash after his century against RCB which helped GT to clinch the game. His sister was threatened and abused by trolls on various social media platforms. The level of hate was so high that National Council for Women chief Swati Maliwal had to interfere in the matter.
Virat Kohli fought for RCB but the team failed
Notably, RCB finished sixth on the points table and got knocked out of the league. This year, once again, they were heavily dependent on their top order and that backfired them in the crucial game against Gujarat Titans. For them, skipper Faf du Plessis (730 runs), Virat Kohli (639 runs) and Glenn Maxwell (400 runs) took responsibility with the bat. On the other hand, with the bowl Mohammed Siraj clinched 19 wickets.
However, no other batter or bowler performed consistently and the team once again fell short of their target. Notably, Kohli hammered two centuries and six half-centuries this year, but due to a lack of support from the middle order and lower middle order, RCB failed to capitalise on his performance. Meanwhile, Kohli is now set to leave for England for the World Test Championship finals. India is set to face Australia in the finals at the iconic Oval Cricket Ground in London from June 7.
