Road Safety World Series 2022
‘Aging like fine wine’- Twitter hails Sri Lanka legends as they defeat Australia Legends by 38 runs in Road Safety World Series
Tillakaratne Dilshan was adjudged the Player of the Match for his century knock.
The Road Safety World Series took off to a sensational start as India Legends and South Africa Legends brought a game of absolute quality in the curtain raiser match. Since then, two more matches have entertained fans with nostalgia and high-quality cricket, the latest of which was between Australia Legends and Sri Lanka Legends.
Going against the flow, the Sri Lanka team won the toss and elected to bat first. Dilshan Munaweera and Tilkartane Dilshan walked in to set up a target for Australia. The two batters got off to a great start as they tackled quality bowlers in Brett Lee, Derk Nannes, Chadd Sayers, and others.
The two thwarted all challenges to reach individual half centuries and laid a solid foundation for the team. Last edition’s top scorer T Dilshan started off where he had ended last campaign and brought out a top-quality century (107 in 56). His knock included 14 boundaries and four sixes in what was a cricketing masterclass from the yesteryears. Brett Lee was able to dislodge Dilshan’s bails in the 19th over but it was too little too late.
Upul Tharanga walked in next and remained unbeaten at three runs, meanwhile the other opener Munaweera also remained shy of a century (95 in 63). On the back of two massive individual scores, the SL Legends team reached 218/1 in 20 overs.
Coming onto chase what was an immense total from the Sri Lanka side Australia’s openers Shane Watson (39) and Cameron White (30) laid a good foundation for the other batters. Brad Hodge failed to take the team forward with none of the other batters coming in with big knocks. Nathan Reardon was Australia’s top scorer as he produced an unbeaten knock of 46 in just 19 deliveries. But the 218 proved a target too big for the Australian Legends team in the end.
Eventually, Sri Lanka Legends won the match by a massive 38 runs as former number one bowler Nuwan Kulasekara took four wickets and broke Australia’s back.
Let’s look at how Twitter reacted to Sri Lanka Leegneds’ win in the Road Safety World Series:
