‘Abhi toh aur dhakke khaoge’ – Fans react as Jonny Bairstow and England team go through rigorous journey to reach India

The England team will play their first warm-up game in Guwahati against host nation India on September 30

As England’s flight to India to participate in the ODI World Cup 2023 took more than 38 hours, Jonny Bairstow cut a disgruntled figure. England left on Wednesday in preparation for their World Cup opener against New Zealand on October 5, a rematch of the 2019 Final. A few days after defeating New Zealand 3-1 during a four-match ODI series, England defeated Ireland by 48 runs in a warm-up game at Trent Bridge.

It’s reasonable to say, though, that England’s trip wasn’t the easiest. Despite the fact that the flight had been in the air for more than 38 hours, Bairstow complained on his Instagram page that his side was still in the aircraft. The 34-year-old shared a picture on social media that featured both the England team and regular people.

In addition, Bairstow described the journey as “utter chaos” and added, “Last leg incoming… been some trip,” finishing with an emoji of a laughing face. The time was 21:21 local time, and he added, “38 hours and counting…” after that.

Before hosting New Zealand on Thursday, England is scheduled to play India in their first warm-up game. Matthew Mott’s squad will be looking to round off the side’s preparations with a victory. The reigning champions are rated fifth in the world, after South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Australia.

“The squad we have picked gives us great flexibility”: Matthew Motts

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. He said, “We’re close but it’s still a while away. And we don’t know how guys will pull up, [it is] a quick turnaround when we land in India. We’ve got a rough idea, then it’s about opposition, whether we go batter-heavy, bowler-heavy. The squad we have picked gives us great flexibility.”

He added, “I do [expect to use more than 13], because of the venues, the travel, certain players thrive, others don’t go so well. That’s why when you pick the squad, you do a lot of ‘what if?’ scenarios.”
