The group stage of the Indian Premier League 2023 is coming to a conclusion. Sunrisers Hyderabad faced Lucknow Super Giants in the tournament’s 58th match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Both teams needed a win in this game to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The host team won the toss and elected to bat first on a solid batting pitch. Anmolpreet Singh got SRH started quickly, scoring 36 runs in 27 balls. Abhishek Sharma, Anmolpreet’s opening partner, lost his wicket immediately, but Rahul Tripathi and skipper Aiden Markram offered superb support with brief cameos. In their respective innings, they scored 20 and 28 runs.

Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad’s pairing, on the other hand, drove the Sunrisers to a good total in the first innings. The pair scored 58 runs for the sixth wicket, providing their team a significant boost. Klaasen hit 47 runs off 29 balls before being dismissed on the last delivery of the 19th over. Abdul Samad, on the other hand, scored 37 runs in 25 balls to assist SRH reach 182/6. Krunal Pandya, the skipper, grabbed two wickets for LSG, while Yudhvir Singh, Avesh Khan, Yash Thakur, and Amit Mishra each took one.

LSG get a slow start in the chase

The chase did not start well for the Men in Blue as they could only add 30 runs in the powerplay, with in-form Kyle Mayers back in the dugout. The batters appeared to be moving slowly, making it appear tough for them to reach the total.

However, after Quinton de Kock’s wicket in the 9th over, Marcus Stoinis changed the course of the game. Prerak Mankad played the anchor at first, while Stoinis ripped apart the SRH bowlers. He scored 40 runs in 25 balls before getting dismissed in the 16th over, leaving 43 runs to win in 27 balls.

Nicholas Pooran then joined Mankad, who had completed his half-century, in the middle and continued from where Stoinis left off. The two batted brilliantly and did the job for Lucknow. Mankad scored 64 runs in 45 balls, while Pooran scored 44 runs in just 13 balls. LSG beat SRH by seven wickets and four balls to spare. With this win, they moved to the fourth place in the points table.
