Star India batter Ambati Rayudu has announced retirement from all forms of cricket after winning the Indian Premier League 2023 with Chennai Super Kings. Rayudu has been phenomenal throughout his career and has represented the two best teams in the IPL. He has been an integral part of Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
However, Rayudu’s international career was nothing sort of a roller coaster ride. He has been dropped from the Indian team before ODI World Cup in 2019 despite having great form. Rayudu finally opened up about his selection and what he felt after that. In a recent interview, Rayudu revealed that the Indian cricket board has asked him to prepare for the mega event in 2018.
“I had some issues with the member of the selection committee when I was playing with them in the early stages of my career, which might be one of the reasons why I was out of the team in World Cup 2019,” Rayudu told TV9 Telugu. Notably, Only one month before the 2019 Cricket World Cup, India Captain Virat Kohli assured the press that Ambati Rayudu was a lock for the No. 4 spot in the ‘Men In Blue’ squad. However, when the lineup for the flagship competition was announced, Rayudu’s name was unexpectedly not on the list.
Rayudu and ICB had a ‘3d’ controversy
After his exclusion from the squad, Rayudu tweeted a cryptic post taking a dig at the selection committee. He said, “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup”. This created a big drama on social media and a senior board official also reacted to it. We have taken note of what Rayudu has tweeted. (But) Let’s accept that emotions are running high at this moment. There is bound to be disappointment and there needs to be an outlet of expression as long as it’s not out of line,” a senior BCCI said
“He will need some time to soak in the disappointment and it’s understandable. There is no need for sanctions. Also, he is one of our standbys. If any injury happens there is every chance, he would go,” the official said. Notably, Allrounder Vijay Shankar was picked over Rayudu in India’s squad for an unsuccessful campaign. Indian team failed to hold their nerves against New Zealand and lost the game.
Here is how fans react to Ambati Rayudu’s comments:

Ambati Rayudu said that in 2018, BCCI officials told him to prepare for the 2019 World Cup. Looks like they were giving him a heads up! Maybe they have a crystal ball… ?

But Kohli did politics and didn’t let him be part of the team, WC-19 results would have been different if this champ plays in place of finished Kohli.

This MC Team management and I think Kohli also do wrong with him,guy playing good at no 4 since 2018 WI tour and I remember he played good against NZ in NZ also just because he flop in Aus odi series and Domestic league IPL he dropped from the WC and we out because of this ??

And Kohli dropped him for playing KL at no.4 and Vinay Shankar as back up no.4
Dhawan got injured in the second game against Australia and KL had to open and Vijay Shankar at no.4, later on Vijay Shankar also got injured and Rishabh Pant played at 4 and Mayank replaced Shankar ?????— Harsh Tegta (@imharshtegta) June 14, 2023
It was all the doing on MSK Prasad. Local issues hampered National Selection. If Vijay Shanakar was the selector then he wouldn't have picked himself over Rayudu! That is where we lost the WC!
