Devon Conway would miss Friday’s 4th T20I against Pakistan at the Hagley Oval. This is a major blow for New Zealand as Conway has to be in isolation after testing positive with COVID-19.
The Black Caps on social media announced this news a couple of hours back. They posted with the caption, “Devon Conway has been ruled out of the fourth T20I against Pakistan after testing positive for COVID. Conway has been in isolation at the team’s Christchurch hotel after testing positive yesterday. Canterbury Kings batsman Chad Bowes will join the squad today as cover,”
Andre Adams, the bowling coach, also came back positive for COVID-19 and will continue to stay at the team hotel. Brendon Donkers, the men’s development coach at Canterbury, will assist Adams by helping the team today.
The release also stated that, “Bowling coach Andre Adams has also tested positive for COVID and will also remain at the team’s hotel. Canterbury Men’s Development Coach Brendon Donkers will join the team for today’s match to help out in Adams’ place.”
Mitchell Santner also got the infection not too long ago and missed a few games as a result. Santner had to remain in isolation while he recovered.
Can Pakistan finally get a win against New Zealand?
On Friday, January 19, at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, Pakistan (PAK) and New Zealand (NZ) will play their fourth Twenty20 International (T20I) game of the Pakistan Tour of New Zealand 2024.
After winning the previous three Twenty20 matches, New Zealand has already secured the five-match T20I series. Pakistan, on the contrary, never quite managed to win the match, even though they consistently came close to. Despite Pakistan’s best efforts to mount a comeback and avoid a clean sweep in today’s match, New Zealand remains the overwhelming favourite to win based on their recent performance. Pakistan would be hoping to win the final two games as consolation in this series.
