South Africa thrashes Bangladesh

In the 23rd match of the ODI World Cup 2023, South Africa beat Bangladesh by 149 runs. In a high-scoring game, South African wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock slammed a massive century and set the tone for the game. His amazing batting performance helped Porteas put up a massive total of 382/5 in 50 overs. In response, Bangladesh failed to tackle the quality bowling line-up and fell 149 runs short of the target.

Earlier in the innings, South African skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bat first. His decision went well with the team, as opener Quinton de Kock and skipper Markram sparked a massive partnership after two early wickets. Both added 131 runs for the third wicket. Markram, in his innings, scored 60 runs off 69 balls with the help of seven boundaries. Meanwhile, De Kock continued his dominance as he scripted another partnership of 138 runs with Heinrich Klaasen.

De Kock, in his inning, scored 174 runs off 140 balls with the help of 15 fours and seven sixes. On the other hand, Klaasen missed out on a well-deserved century as he scored 90 runs off 49 balls with the help of two fours and eight sixes. In the end, a 15-ball 34 from David Miller propelled South Africa to a massive total of 382/5 in 50 overs. For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud clinched two wickets.

Bangladesh failed to support Mahmudullah’s one-man show

Chasing a massive total of 382 runs, Bangladesh had the worst possible start as they lost their first six wickets for a mere 81 runs in 22 overs. Out of the top five batters, three failed to cross the two-digit mark, including Najmul Hossain Shanto’s golden duck. Meanwhile, skipper Shakib Al Hasan also failed to do anything with the bat as he scored just one run.

However, despite a poor performance from one-end star batter Mahmudullah, he continued his dominance with the bat. In a one-man show, Mahmudullah scored a tonne but eventually failed to get the game home. In his inning, Mahmudullah scored 111 runs off 111 balls with the help of eleven fours and four sixes.

It’s worth noting that apart from him, not a single Bangladeshi batter crossed the 25-run mark in the high-scoring game. Meanwhile, for South Africa, Gerald Coetzee clinched three wickets, while Marco Jansen and Lizard Willams took two wickets each.
