The Indian team is eyeing the prestigious ODI World Cup to end their trophy drought. After losing yet another final against Australia in the World Test Championships, Rohit Sharma and his team are set to take on the world at home. This World Cup might prove to be the last one for some players, including India skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and others.

Meanwhile, former West Indies batter Chris Gayle has backed the Indian team for the prestigious tournament. He also picked some key players who might decide India’s fate in the World Cup. “Jasprit Bumrah for sure. I’m sure he’s going to be back. And young man Surya (Suryakumar Yadav). These two guys will be key players for India”, Gayle told the Times Of India.

Further speaking about Virat Kohli, Gayle said that Kohli will play one more ODI at the World Cup. “Virat Kohli still has another World Cup in him. I don’t think this is going to be his last World Cup. I think he has another World Cup in him. India are favourites; they play at home as well. So, it’s going to be very interesting. We want to see the team they’re actually going to select”, he said.

“That’s bigger than Ashes”, says Chris Gayle about India vs. Pakistan match

Speaking about one of the most talked-about matches of the World Cup between India and Pakistan, Gayle compared it with the Ashes series. He said it was bigger than that. “India vs. Pakistan—that’s bigger than the Ashes. Yes, that’s bigger than Ashes, absolutely. That’s huge on the world stage. Billions of people watched that. We know what comes. Let’s see what happens on the 15th. I’ll go watch it.”

Notably, India is set to face Pakistan in the third group game of the 2023 World Cup. The team will head to Ahmedabad after facing Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan in Delhi to face Pakistan. The match will take place at The iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15. In other important matches, India will face Australia on October 8, New Zealand in Dharamshala on October 22, and South Africa in Kolkata on October 29.
