The second-innings dismissal of Jonny Bairstow in the Lord’s Test of the Ashes 2023 continues to be discussed. It’s understandable why England are still upset about it, and Bairstow himself is still processing what happened. However, Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins made it clear before the third Test that they would repeat the dismissal because it was legal and there was no debate about the game’s ethos.
In the meantime, Bairstow’s deliberate extra caution in regards to staying within the crease during the dying moments of Day 1 of the third Test at Headingley left Australia’s cricketers in splits. With approximately 30 minutes remaining in the day’s play, he came out to bat and played 19 balls. It’s interesting to note that Bairstow didn’t leave his crease when the ball had been bowled and remained there the entire time.
Australian players Steve Smith, Alex Carey, and others near the stumps could be seen laughing at him due to his conduct. Social media users are having fun after the same video went viral there.
The incident that occurred in 2009 between Paul Collingwood of England and Brendon McCullum, then-New Zealand’s cricketer and current England coach, was echoed by Bairstow’s dismissal. When Collingwood left his crease on the final ball of an over in a Champions Trophy match in Johannesburg, keeper McCullum flung the ball at the stumps. Vettori, the skipper of the Kiwis, recalled the batter, though.
Australia and England go neck to neck
As for the game, England finished Day 1 on 68/3 in response to Australia’s 263 during the first innings. Bairstow was still undefeated on 1 from 19 deliveries. Joe Root, who has scored 19 runs and is still unbeaten, will be crucial for the home team on day two. Earlier, in his very first Test since 2019, Mitchell Marsh, the standout for Australia, scored an incredible century. He scored 118 runs off just ten deliveries, including 17 fours as well as four sixes, but a collapse ensued after his departure soon before tea.

Yeah ,now no one will get him out that way. its plain and simple play the game according to laws of the game , spirit of cricket is subjective thing and used by the one who is actually at the wrong side of the decision.
