West Indies and India locked horns in the last ODI of the three-match series at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a great start as openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill stitched a partnership of 112 runs. Their Skipper scored 58 before being caught at midwicket by Nicholas Pooran off Hayden Walsh Jr.

Notably, moments after the wicket, the game was stopped due to rain. The game was about to resume after one hour if not for wet outfields. Moreover, the salt on the wounds for the fans was the return of rain after just 11 minutes. After a while, the game resumed with 40 overs a side. After resumption, Gill and Shreyas Iyer stitched a partnership of 87 runs. Iyer (44) was caught at long-on by Keemo Paul of Akeal Hosein in the 33rd over.

Suryakumar Yadav (8) followed next as he became the second victim of Walsh. The team was on 225/3 when it started raining again. Gill was unbeaten on 98 and was set to get his maiden international hundred. However, the persistent rains had other ideas and the innings was stopped. When the game resumed, the target for the home team was set 257 in 35 overs.

In reply, the Maroon Brigade had a poor start as Kyle Myers (0) was clean bowled by Mohammed Siraj in the second over of the innings. In the same over, Shamarh Brooks (0) was trapped lbw. Shai Hope (22) and Brandon King stitched a partnership of 47 before the former was stumped by Sanju Samson off Yuzvendra Chahal. King (42) got a decent start but was cleaned up by Axar Patel. The team kept losing regular wickets and were eventually bowled out on 137 in 26 overs.

For the Men In Blue, Chahal took four wickets while Sirah, Shardul Thakur took two each and Patel and Prasidh Krishna took one each. With this win, the team managed to clean sweep the Caribbeans for the first time in their backyard
