After winning the T20I series, India’s women’s team have clinched the ODI series as well against Sri Lanka. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. beat India by 10 wickets on Monday at Pallekele Internatioal Cricket Stadium.
India bundled Sri Lanka out for just 173 runs on the board in the first innings. Both the openers departed early as Sri Lanka couldn’t get off to a great start. Renuka Singh accounted for the wicket of both of them.
Skipper Athapaththu tried to stay longer at the crease but she couldn’t convert the start into a big score. Meghna Singh had her in the 16th over, while Anushka Sanjeewani, unfortunately, got run-out in the 23rd over.
Nikashi de Silva also looked good for his 32 off 62 but she couldn’t convert it into a big score, while Ama Kanchana remained unbeaten on 47 off 83 balls. Sri Lanka needed someone to play a big knock but wickets kept falling at regular intervals.
As for India, Renuka Singh starred with the ball as she returned with figures of 4 for 28 in 10 overs. Mehgna Singh and Deepti Sharma also accounted for two wickets each.
In response to the score, India chased down the score without losing a single wicket during the second innings. Both Shafali Varma and Smriti Mandhana took calculated risks and stitched an unbeaten 174-run partnership for the opening wicket.
Varma played a stellar knock of 71 runs in 71 balls, while Smriti Mandhana scored 94 runs in 83 deliveries, including 11 fours and 1 six. With that win, India have won both the ODIs played so far and thus, take the series. Earlier, India won the first ODI by 4 wickets.
The third and final one-day international between the two teams is slated to be played on Thursday at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. It will be the last game for the India team on their tour of Sri Lanka. They had, earlier, won the T20 series by a 2-1 margin.
