Despite Ravindra Jadeja’s remarkable performance against England on the first day of the 3rd Test, the seasoned all-rounder faced scrutiny due to Sarfaraz Khan’s runout incident. While batting on 99 during the final session, Jadeja accidentally ran out Sarfaraz. After skipper Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, Sarfaraz, making his debut, partnered with an in-form Jadeja and swiftly scored a half-century, propelling India to a commanding position in Rajkot.
Former Indian captain Anil Kumble amusingly drew parallels between Sarfaraz Khan’s debut mishap which was a run-out and it was something which the veteran leg spinner himself encountered in debut match, where he encountered a similar fate. Renowned for his wit, Kumble remarked on Sarfaraz’s impactful partnership, implying that Jadeja’s careful tactics might have contributed to the run-out. Despite the shared experience of being run out, Kumble humorously pointed out that Sarfaraz scored 65 runs more than he did on his debut.
“Sarfaraz was dominating in that partnership. Jadeja, I thought had got into a shell, that sometimes creates a mindset where you are not clear about the decision-making. And maybe that was one of the reasons and possibly I passed on my bad luck of getting run out on debut because I got run out on my debut. But at least he got 65 (Sarfaraz scored 62) more,” Anil Kumble said on Jio Cinema.
Sarfaraz becomes joint second highest batter to score fastest fifty on Test debut
Sarfaraz Khan’s remarkable innings featured nine boundaries and a six, guiding him to his fifty in just 48 deliveries. This feat placed him as the joint second-fastest Indian, along with Hardik Pandya, to reach fifty on Test debut. However, the celebration was brief, as an ill-timed run call from Ravindra Jadeja resulted in Sarfaraz’s unfortunate dismissal.
Sarfaraz Khan’s debut saga captivates cricket enthusiasts, and his exceptional innings augur a promising future for the young cricketer. At the close of play on Day 1, Team India finds themselves at 326 for five in the match. Jadeja and Kuldeep are currently at the crease, with their individual scores yet to be confirmed.
