Today marks the Netflix debut of Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, starring Ananya Panday, Adarsh Gourav, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Kalki Koechlin. The trailer for the movie promised to immerse us in the world of social media while exposing its darker, true side. The public has dropped their verdict on the recently released most awaited movie.
The screenplay for the film, which is Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s second release of the year after The Archies, was written by the latter two and directed by Arjun Varain Singh, who previously served as assistant director on Gully Boy. But in this day and age, when likes, comments, and connections on social media have surpassed in-person interactions and bonds, does Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’s story really serve as an eye-opener?

Kho Gaye Hum Kahan review:
The screenplay by Zoya and Reema moves slowly but never drags. Reading a book and watching a movie are similar. It takes its sweet time discussing different facets of the internet community. From social media likes and comments to online dating, influencer life, stalking, hacking, and trolling. In his direction, Arjun Varain Singh maintains realism, highlighting the differences between the real and virtual worlds.
There should be more focus on the influencer community and its potential to impact the younger generation that is addicted to social media. Not much time is spent on this particular aspect. Anya Singh’s portrayal of the influencer Lala, also known as Laxmi Lalvani, is reduced to a caricature. Nothing is said about how her posts may affect a follower, despite the fact that she is extremely extravagant. Once more from the same producers and creatives who brought us The Archies, the music isn’t particularly noteworthy.
Neither preachy nor aftertaste does Kho Gaye Hum Kahan leave you with. It’s a sincere effort to portray the actual life that lies behind social media filters. How it can make you feel hateful, angsty, frustrated, and falsely “connected,” but in actuality.
It only serves to distance you from everything and everyone that matters in order to get a few likes and comments (validation) from anonymous, faceless individuals. Kho Gaye Hum Kahan never asks you to stop using social media, but it does make you pause, consider your usage patterns, and consider where to draw the line. A bit exhausted by the obscene clarity of therapy-speak and the way it is used in KHO GAYE HUM KAHAN. Some thoughts. https://t.co/cawwprLqHq pic.twitter.com/dJXZ3Re8oG
