The Chennai Super Kings are disputing rumours that they are in talks to sell some of its top players, like Rohit Sharma, to the Mumbai Indians. The five-time champions are not interested in moving any of its players, as CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan made clear about this decision. He added that they have not approached the Mumbai Indians about engaging in such talks.
Rumours of discord inside the Mumbai Indians camp surfaced after Hardik Pandya was named captain. Moreso, this took place following his historic return to the team in a trade. Many supporters were taken aback by Hardik’s appointment as captain, and many criticised the five-time winners’ decision-making.
When the Mumbai Indians confirmed the change in captaincy, Mahela Jayawardene, Global Head of Cricket, said that the decision was made keeping the future in mind. Rohit Sharma did not respond to the news. Rumours on social media circulated that some senior Mumbai Indians players, including Rohit, wanted to leave the team. This happened following Hardik’s comeback and promotion to captain of the franchise.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said about the trading window as he said, “We don’t trade players as a principle and we also don’t have players to trade with Mumbai Indians. We have not approached them and we don’t intend to either.”
“I have worked very closely with Ro” : Mahela Jayawardene
Opening on December 20 and running until a month prior to the new season begins, the IPL 2024 trading window was closed one week prior to the IPL mini-auction. The Indian Cricket Board has not yet released the IPL 2024 schedule.
Mahela Jayawardene spoke to the media during the IPL Auctions 2024 in Dubai. He said, “Having Ro (Rohit Sharma) in the team, on and off the field to guide the next generation is very important for us. He has been absolutely brilliant. I have worked very closely with Ro. He is a fabulous individual and I am sure he will be part of the legacy who will guide that through.”
