India registered a third straight bilateral T20I series win with a seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second T20I at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on February 26. Blistering knocks from Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja helped the Men In Blue chase down a stiff total of 183 with less than three overs to spare.Â
By the virtue of this win, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has yet another T20I series triumph under his belt, but more importantly, he has also surpassed his predecessors MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli with a unique feat. At the same time, Rohit has also surpassed two of the accomplished international white-ball captains as well.
After India’s emphatic win over Sri Lanka in the second game, Rohit Sharma emerged as the most successful captain in the shortest format at home. The Men In Blue are now unbeaten in their last 11 matches dating back to the 20-20 World Cup 2021 in November. Under the Hitman, India have now won 16 of their 17 home T20Is which is a world record. Rohit has surpassed the likes of England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson to achieve this feat. Both are tied at 15 wins each.
As far as the Indian captaincy list is concerned, with the second T20I win against the Lankans, Rohit Sharma has registered three more victories in the game’s shortest format than Virat Kohli and five more than the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni at home. The dynamic opener would be hoping to continue the streak when India face Sri Lanka in the third match at the same venue on February 26.
