Prime Minister Narendra Modi, present at the event, visited Team India’s dressing room after the disappointing loss to console the dejected players.
During his interaction, PM Modi spent time with the players, offering words of motivation and consolation. He empathetically held the hands of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, emphasizing that winning and losing are integral parts of the game, and that the team should not be disheartened by the outcome.
“Cheer up! This happens, you all worked hard throughout the tournament (ye hota rehta hai, ap sabne bahut mehnat ki),” PM Modi said during his interaction with the Indian players.

The leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023, Mohammed Shami who accounted for 24 scalps in seven games, shared a photo of the Prime Minister on social media, depicting the moment of solace in the Indian dressing room. The 33-year-old pacer extended his appreciation to Indian fans for their unwavering support during the tournament. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his considerate gesture in the dressing room.
“Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thankful to PM @narendramodi for specially coming to the dressing room and raising our spirits. We will bounce back!” Shami wrote on his official Twitter handle.
Indian fans experienced the disappointment of witnessing their team lose the fifth final in the last 10 years. Despite being the standout team throughout the tournament, dominating every opponent on the way to the finals, the final match proved elusive. Notably, in the round-robin phase, the former two-time champions secured a six-wicket victory against Australia. The defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for devoted Indian fans who expressed their unwavering support for the team on social media. The Prime Minister also commended the players for their efforts.
