Riyan Parag, the Assam skipper, is expected to get his first Team India call-up. The cricketer from Assam is probably going to be chosen for the five-game home T20I series versus Australia, according to Times of India. Starting on November 23, the series will take place immediately following the 2023 ODI World Cup.
It’s expected that the majority of the senior players will have a break throughout the Australia series. As a result, Parag and many other new faces could receive a shot.
Notably, Parag’s all-around performance lit up the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Even though Assam was unable to get past the SMAT 2023 semifinals, Parag’s steady performances won over a lot of people.
Parag leads the run charts in the competition with 510 runs in 10 games with an average of 85.00 including a phenomenal strike rate of 182.79. Seven half-centuries are included in the total, with his best score being 76*.
Riyan was also performing well the ball using with incredible spin variations. He grabbed 11 wickets with a 24.54 average. It’s interesting to note that, behind Akash Sengupta, he was Assam’s second-highest wicket-taker at the end. He has an economy of 7.21 which is pretty good in the T20 format. 3/9 were some of his finest numbers during the tournament.

A source from the Indian Cricket Board told Times Of India about considering Riyan Parag’s selection for the upcoming series. He said, “Parag has been performing consistently in domestic cricket this season. It’s hard to ignore his all-round performances. To add to his worth, he’s also an excellent fielder.”
With 98 T20 matches under his belt, 21-year-old Parag has amassed 2,043 runs. His strike rate is 142.17 and he averages approximately 30.04. There are up to eighteen half-centuries in the total. Additionally, Riyan has 41 wickets within the format. He plays for the Indian Premier League’s Rajasthan Royals. All of his 600 runs have come at a pitiful average of 16.22 in the IPL.
