South Africa’s run-scoring spree continued on Tuesday during their ODI World Cup 2023 game versus Bangladesh. Cricket-crazy fans in Mumbai were treated to both panache and power, thanks to Quinton De Kock.
The former Mumbai Indians star scored his third century in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. Quinton De Kock scored 174 runs against as he took a toll against a tired-looking Bangladeshi attack.
The 30-year-old South African superstar has stated his desire to retire from the ODI format. The decision was made just weeks before the start of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign was set to start.

Deciding to bat first after winning the toss, South Africa scored 382 runs from their allotted 50 overs. The Protean team has already scored 300-plus totals thrice during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

Quinton De Kock scored a brilliant 174 runs from a mere 140 balls to guide his team to the total. This was De Kock’s ODI century number 21 and the third of the ongoing tournament. This knock of 174 was also the best by a wicket-keeper batter in World Cup history. The previous best was by Adam Gilchrist who scored 149 versus Sri Lanka in 2007.
Aiden Markram complimented De Kock well as the South African skipper scored 60 runs from 69 balls with 7 fours. Heinrich Klassen had scored a brilliant century versus England on Saturday. The burly right-hander scored 90 runs from 49 balls with the help of 8 sixes and 2 fours.
The finishing touches to the innings was given by David Miller who whacked quickfire 34 runs. South Africa had earlier made one change to their team with Lungi Ngidi coming in for Lizard Williams who was playing his 2nd ODI game.
Bangladesh also made one change to their team as skipper Shakib Al Hasan was back in the team. The 36-year-old had missed the game in Pune versus India which saw India claim an easy win. The Bangladeshis need a win on Tuesday versus South Africa to keep their ODI World Cup 2023 hopes alive.
South Africa meanwhile had beaten defending champions by a huge margin of 229 runs in their last game. This was after their shock loss to the Netherlands in Dharamshala by 43 runs last week.
