Bangladesh scores a formidable total in the first innings
After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto elected to bat first. Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66) provided a strong start with a 93-run opening partnership. Tanzid displayed aggressive play, taking on the bowlers, while Litton adopted a more cautious approach.
In the 15th over, Kuldeep Yadav broke the partnership by dismissing Tanzid Hasan, initiating a turnaround for the Indian bowlers. This wicket also inspired a couple of quick wickets to follow. Litton, despite reaching his half-century, fell while attempting an attacking shot.
Mushfiqur Rahim (38) and Mahmudullah (46) played crucial innings in the lower middle order, guiding Bangladesh to a total of 256/8 in 50 overs. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj each secured two wickets for India in the bowling department. One of the major highlights from the first innings was the Indian fielding effort. The catches taken by Indian wicketkeeper, KL Rahul and then by Ravindra Jadeja were a treat to watch for everyone. Both the players were airborne while taking the catch. Reflecting on the first innings action at mid-innings break.
“I think, the wicket looks very good, not much turn on the wicket and if we play just normal cricket, we should get the job done. (About the celebration after the catch). The celebration was for our fielding catch, after every game, we get the best fielder’s award and I was telling him to look at me,” Jadeja said.
