Australia’s opening batter David Warner has expressed his frustration over the umpiring in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. During the matches against South Africa, some of the Australian players suffered due to poor umpiring. Against the Proteas, former skipper Steve Smith and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis were the victims of it. The former was given out lbw, although the ball looked like missing the stumps to the naked eye.

Even one of the on-field umpires was shocked by the hawk-eye’s prediction. On the other hand, Stoinis was caught down the leg side but the ball hit that glove that went off the bat. Even he was shocked by the decision by the third umpire. In the game against Sri Lanka, Warner was given out with the umpires’ call. However, the left-hander felt that the ball was going to miss the stumps.

Meanwhile, the two-time World Cup winner has suggested that the umpires’ stats must be displayed at the start of the game.

“Players’ stats go up on the board as you walk out to bat. When they announce the umpires, I’d love to see their stats come up on the board as well. The NRL does it. I think the NFL does it,” said Warner.

“It’s a great thing for the spectators to see as well. You definitely know which umpires are going to give those 50-50 ones when it hits the pad, and that’s where from my perspective it gets frustrating,” he said.

There has to be some accountability for the umpires: David Warner

“There’s no bias in anything. It’s just that you feel that as a player sometimes. There has to be some accountability. If you get a decision wrong, just accept it and apologise. Players aren’t going to bite your head off. Umpires aren’t going to bite your head off if you ask them the question. They’re generally pretty honest,” Warner added.
