India easily defeated Babar Azam’s Pakistan in their eagerly awaited ODI World Cup 2023 match. After the game, Pakistan’s cricket team director Mickey Arthur responded sharply, criticising the environment in Ahmedabad. He spoke about the predominance of Indian supporters inside the Narendra Modi Stadium.

As the world’s largest cricket stadium, that boasts a capacity of 1,30,000, was packed to the rafters with supporters wearing blue jerseys. Mickey Arthur claimed that the India vs Pakistan game on October 14 appeared to be like an apex cricket council event since it reminded him of a bilateral series in India.

Following Rohit Sharma’s decision to field after winning the toss, India removed the Pakistan batters for 191. With a blistering 86 from only 63 balls, including 6 sixes as well as 6 boundaries, Rohit Sharma led the chase. Team India won the game with 117 balls to spare and are currently the table toppers of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Notably, on the eve of the match, the Pakistani captain also discussed fan backing for the players in Ahmedabad, especially after the squad received fan support in their initial two games in Hyderabad.

“I didn’t hear Dil Dil Pakistan coming through” : Mickey Arthur

The team director, who previously served as the squad’s head coach, complimented the India team’s clinical performance in Ahmedabad and said that he wasn’t going to utilise it as an excuse.

Mickey Arthur said, “Look, I’d be lying if I said… It didn’t seem like an apex cricket council event, tonight, to be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series; it seemed like an Indian Cricket Board event. I didn’t hear Dil Dil Pakistan coming through the microphones too often tonight.”

The Pakistan Team director added that, “So yes, that does play a role, but I’m not going to use that as an excuse because for us, it was about living the moment, it was about the next ball and it was about how we were going to combat the Indian, the Indian players tonight.”
