Rajasthan and Delhi faced each other during the 58th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. This game took place at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The Rishabh Pant-led side chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Their bowlers did well and didn’t give any breathing space to the opposition batters. Thus, Delhi’s bowling was disciplined to say the least. Chetan Sakariya took the all-important wicket of Jos Buttler.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (19) couldn’t do much in this game as he was dismissed by Mitchell Marsh. Ravichandran Ashwin took the advantage of his promotion in the batting order and scored his first T20 fifty. The Tamil Nadu cricketer was promoted to number three, which has been done by the team on a few occasions in this edition already. Devdutt Padikkal scored a useful 48 off 30 balls.
However, the lack of support from the other batters meant that the team was restricted to 160/6 as the likes of Rassie van der Dussen, skipper Sanju Samson, and Riyan Parag failed to make any impact. For the Rishabh Pant-led side, Marsh, Sakariya, and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each. On the other hand, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav were economical. However, Axar Patel had a bad day as he was taken to the cleaners.
During the second innings, the 2020 finalists didn’t have a great start as KS Bharat (0) bagged a silver duck while facing Trent Boult in the first over. However, the Men In Pink and Blue didn’t know what they were about to face in the next 17 overs. Mitchell Marsh and David Warner stitched a match-winning partnership of 144 runs. Marsh was looked all set to score the second century of his T20 career, but his ambition, unfortunately, ended as he was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal after scoring a 62-ball 89.
Rishabh Pant hit two sixes at the end, which was not a surprise given his reputation as a batter. Notably, those sixes came against his Indian teammate Chahal. On the other hand, Warner scored an unbeaten 52 runs to take the team home. Thus, the Delhi-based franchise beat Rajasthan by eight wickets. With this win, Delhi’s qualification is still in their hands as they can still get to 16 points.
