‘2023 mai 6 century laga do’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma expresses his disappointment of not winning 2019 ODI World Cup

In 2019, Rohit Sharma was at his peak in cricket, especially in his favourite format, ODIs. Before the World Cup, Sharma was in great form in the format. Come the big tournament, the great batter rose to the occasion and had a great outing as a batter. Individually, the 36-year-old had a fantastic season with the bat in England. The batting of the great batter was praised by everyone in the tournament.   

The Indian captain has fond memories of his performance in the tournament. But the Mumbai batter also regrets the fact that India could not win the cup despite having a lot of great individual performances throughout the tournament. India lost the semifinal to New Zealand. Recently, Sharma spoke to the International cricket council and expressed his disappointment over not winning the tournament.  

‘2019 World Cup was the best cricket I played’ – Sharma

Sharma was asked about his great individual performance with the bat in the tournament. The star batter said “2019 World Cup was the best cricket I have played, got some runs but again I have mentioned many times, if you don’t win the trophy, these runs don’t matter, I was disappointed as we had given everything as a team but it wasn’t just for us” and expressed his bittersweet opinion.   

The 2019 World Cup saw some of the exciting cricketers. Many players had a sensational tournament as batters and bowlers respectively. Batters, in particular, had a great tournament. The likes of David Warner, Shakib Al Hasan, Kane Williamson, Babar Azam, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Virat Kohli, Ben Stokes, Aaron Finch, and Rohit Sharma had a great tournament as batters.  

In the World Cup 2019 in England, three batters scored over 600 runs. Rohit Sharma scored 648 runs and ended as the highest run-scorer in the tournament. In 9 innings, Sharma scored 648 runs at an exceptional batting average of 81.00, at a good strike rate of 98.33, including 5 hundred and a fifty. Sharma scored 3 hundred in a row against England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
