Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s Test team, had stated that he will retire from ODIs in 2022 and appears certain to do the same before joining the team for the 2023 World Cup. Last year, Stokes announced his retirement from the 50-over format, playing his final match against India at home in July 2022.
According to a story in The Telegraph, he is now prepared to resume playing in the manner specified in order to support England’s title defence in the ODI World Cup, which will begin in India in October. According to the source, he may also be willing to forgo the IPL 2024 and be employed as a specialised batsman during the World Cup if necessary.
Stokes now has a contract with the defending champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but he may need surgery for a problematic knee that frequently flares up and limits his ability to bowl. He may be ready to forgo the IPL for the purpose to get enough healing time, since a lengthy Test trip of India begins near the end of January.
After hearing that Stokes might not wear the yellow of CSK in the 2024 IPL, fans on Twitter had a lot to say. Due to the additional revenue it generates for the franchise, one can go from being disappointed to seeing it as a disguised blessing.
Ben Stokes was robbed for 14 crore INR by Chennai Super Kings
At the 2023 player auction hosted in Kochi in December of last year, the MS Dhoni-led CSK tried all-out to get Stokes’ services. CSK turned him their most costly purchase ever by forking over a whopping 16 crore, topping the 14 crore they paid for Deepak Chahar during the 2022 auction.
Stokes played for the Chennai Super Kings in just two contests, recording figures of 7 and 8, but also bowling just one over in which he allowed 18 runs to be scored. After suffering an injury that caused him to miss a few games, the team was doing well and had a polished appearance, so even when healthy, he was benched for the remainder of the season.

He earned almost £2 million from CSK this year for doing absolutely nothing. Guess he doesn’t want to be a liability for IPL teams.
