Star India batter Prithvi Shaw is currently participating in the London One-Day Cup. While playing for Northamptonshire, Shaw hammered his first double-century in the tournament. In his record-breaking inning, Shaw scored 244 runs off 153 balls with the help of 28 fours and 11 sixes. Riding on his performance, Northamptonshire posted a massive total of 415/8 in 50 overs.
With this achievement, Shaw accomplished a remarkable feat by becoming only the third cricketer worldwide to record a double century in the history of the tournament. Importantly, he surpassed the previous record for the highest individual score. The record was previously held by England batter Ollie Robinson, who scored 206 runs in 2022.
In the previous edition, both Robinson from Kent and Ali Orr from Sussex had achieved scores of 206 runs each. Furthermore, this accomplishment also marked the sixth-highest individual score in the history of List A cricket. Notably, this is Shaw’s second double-hundred in List-A cricket. He is only behind India skipper Rohit Sharma, who has three of those.
When will Prithvi Shaw make a comeback?
It’s worth noting that the 23-year-old Mumbai batter has been phenomenal in domestic cricket. Earlier this year, he hammered his first triple century in the Ranji Trophy. Notably, Shaw last played for India in July 2021 and received his last national call in January this year for a T20I series against New Zealand.
This year he also failed to score runs in the Indian Premier League, making it his worst season to date. In eight innings for the Delhi Capitals, he scored just 106 runs, including a half-century against the Punjab Kings. He averaged around 13 during the tournament and failed to capitalise on the opportunity. Meanwhile, in the ongoing London Cup, he is looking comfortable and will be looking forward to scoring more runs.
