The Indian team management has given Suryakumar Yadav, who averaged merely 6 at Number 4 in ODIs, a new position at Number 6 as per the reports from the Indian Express. Indian team management was hoping that Suryakumar could maintain the position because it was a problem for them in the most recent ODI world cup.
However, since that hasn’t happened, they have adjusted their strategy. They are hoping that Suryakumar will utilise his aggressive T20 style at No. 6 and perform at his peak when he has fewer overs available. He has played in 4 games at No. 6 and has a strike rate of 107.35.
In the first ODI against West Indies, the team management forced him to bat at number 4, but in the second ODI, he was forced to bat at number 6. According to reports, after much deliberation in the Caribbean, the newly appointed selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar, coach Rahul Dravid, and captain Rohit Sharma all agreed that Yadav’s playing style should be utilised in death overs.
The team management thinks that Suryakumar is one of the few cricketers in the world who can play everywhere and against both pace and spin. He can create shots with his amazing flexibility to throw off the rhythm of the bowlers. In T20 cricket, he has a track record of winning matches, and he doesn’t wait to start applying pressure to the bowling side. But in ODIs, he is having trouble with this strategy.
I think Surya is a really good player: Rahul Dravid
As the World Cup approaches and KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s match fitness is still unknown, Suryakumar now has the opportunity to firmly establish his spot in the 50-overs team. Coach Dravid of the Indian team has backed the 32-year-old batsman despite his inability to capitalise on his opportunities by saying that he continues to acquire knowledge about ODI cricket.
The former Team India cricketer spoke to the reporters following India’s humiliating loss to the West Indies in the second ODI. He said, “Unfortunately, I think he [Suryakumar] will be the first one to address that his ODI numbers probably not been up to the high standards that he has set in the T20, but he is also learning about ODI cricket. I think Surya is a really good player. There is no doubt about it. His performances have shown that especially in T20 cricket and even in domestic cricket.”

Don't know why so many people are against him, he is a straightaway match winner.. the best part about him is he doesn't score any ugly runs.. as many times he have been given out, it's just because the mindset he have..for example bro was trying to play sweep 4 times an over 1/2

Lol either the overs provided it might be right but here at 6 there's no batting depth to play freely which he gets In t20 while batting at 3

Looks like they aren't sure about Shreyas Iyer availability for WC 2023 otherwise no use to Try Surya at 6 if they were sure about Shreyas Iyer So they will play this for WC
1.Rohit 2.Gill 3.Kohli 4.Rahul 5.Hardik 6.Surya 7.Jadeja 8.Shardul/Shami 9.Kuldeep 10.Siraj 11.Bumrah— Shariff (@Godlin1929) August 1, 2023
What if his turn came early so he will play few overs and out

??bro he averages 20 in ODIs only with no century and no half century against sena ?

The way team management wants to fix him in the team, shows how much they are obsessed with him. Rutu got dropped after 1 ODI, Shreyas got dropped from WC squad twice, Shikhar Dhawan dropped from ODI's after one series failure and Bhuvi also got dropped.

So now Hardik needs to compromise his natural position just to maximize SKYs one format game ?

Management thought of trying Sanju Samson at 6 too, but they were scared that he might actually end up performing. – [The Super Indian Express]

They're just wasting their time trying to get him into the team. He's getting unlimited chances to fail without consequences. If India loses 4 wickets early like they have quite often in the past then do they expect SKY to come in and play 30 overs and build an innings?

It will still not work out. Wait and watch. You have to think with the idea of formats. Understand old ball and new ball. You can’t say that a solid T20 player will do the same performance in ODI. I’m here and you’re also here. Let’s see how he delivers.

Indian mgmt will continue “trying” and evaluating different batsmen at diff positions till the eve of World Cup.
And on day 1 of WC, we will select batting order with a secure lottery system.— Lazy Panda (@anshul_saxena) August 1, 2023
