The Indian Cricket Board is looking for a new head coach for the Indian Women’s team. The team is looking for a person to take over the charges from the acting head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar. However, in a recent news report, it has been revealed that former Men’s team coach Gary Kristen has declined the offer to coach the Women’s team.
He cited his previous commitments with IPL and other league franchises. However, now, former England skipper and World Cup winner Charlotte Edwards has joined the race to become the next head coach of the Women’s team. She is joined by Amol Majumdar and current interim coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar. Notably, Edward is looking ahead in the race as she recently accompanied Mumbai Indians Women to win the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League.
It’s worth noting that Indian Cricket Board is looking for a perfect candidate to guide the Indian women’s team in upcoming Multinational tournaments in the next two years. The team is set to play the 20-20 World Cup in Bangladesh next year and will host the 50-over World Cup in India in 2025. The team would like to put their best performance in the multinational tournaments to bring the cup home.
ICB announced a new selection committee for the Women’s Team
Ahead of the Bangladesh tour, Indian Cricket Board announced the new selection committee for the Women’s team and junior cricket committee. Board appointed Ms Shyama Dey Shaw and Mr VS Thilak Naidu for one position each in the two committees. Shyama will join the committee ahead of India’s tour of Bangladesh starting on July 16.
In a recent press statement, Board said, “The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape, screened applications for the positions of one selector in the Women’s Selection Committee and Junior Cricket Committee each, respectively. The CAC has unanimously recommended Ms Shyama Dey Shaw and Mr VS Thilak Naidu for the said positions.”
