Shubman Gill and his sister received death threats from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) supporters hours after the team was eliminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs for the 2023 season. On Sunday, May 21, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a tightly contested game played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite Virat Kohli’s outstanding effort, GI outperformed his team thanks to Shubman Gill’s 104-run knock in just 52 balls.
Due to their disappointment with the game’s outcome, several Royal Challengers Bangalore supporters lost their composure and started harassing Gill and his sister online. Many of them continued to threaten people with rape and death. An image of a burned-out car was posted on Twitter by @VamosVirat, who wishes it was Shubman Gill’s car. “With no one outside to put him into the hospital,” he continued.

Another RCB supporter cursed the young cricketer and referred to his sister Shahneel Gill as a “transgender person” in their comments. From now on, understand that everything bad in your life will occur because I prayed for it, he swore. Another Twitter user (@gayle_vishnu) openly expressed his desire for Shubman Gill to pass away on the microblogging website. The RCB ‘fan’ added that he didn’t mind if his ID was suspended. Another supporter of Royal Challengers Bangalore tweeted Shahneel Gill’s link to target her with his troll army.
As expected, hateful statements regarding her sexual orientation and prayers for her brother’s murder inundated the comments section of her Instagram photos. Shahneel was labelled as a “prostitute” and urged for her to be sold online for Rs. 9 by the same Virat Kohli “fan” who had earlier called for Shubman Gill’s death.
RCB supporters also harassed Shubman Gill on Instagram with some of the coarsest languages. He was charged with making a century to win over his girlfriend and destroying Virat Kohli’s team’s chances in the process. It is not the first Virat Kohli’s supporters have engaged in similar activity. Before that, they desired that MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captains and Mumbai Indians, respectively, would perish.
Four teams have qualified for the Playoffs after RCB was kicked out of the IPL this season. Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants are some of these teams.
