In the 48th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Gujarat Titans are facing Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. While batting first, the hosts failed to capitalise on the opportunity as they were bundled up for just 118 runs in 17.5 overs. Skipper Sanju Samson proved to be the best batter for the hosts as he scored 30 runs off 20 balls with the help of six and three boundaries.
However, other batters, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, and Devdutt Padikkal, failed to capitalise on the opportunity. They were troubled by ace Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed. Meanwhile, RR also used Riyan Parag as an impact player while struggling against the Afghani duo. He came in place of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Even though he has been out of form in the ongoing tournament, RR still trusted him in the most important position.
However, their decision fired them back as Parag was dismissed by Rashid Khan for just 4 runs off six balls. In the ongoing tournament, Parag has scored just 58 runs in six innings at an average of 11.60 with 20 being his highest score. In this tournament, he has hammered just three boundaries and as many sixes.
Rajasthan Royals failed to score on a slow pitch
Earlier, after winning the toss, RR skipper Sanju Samson opted to bat first on a slow track. His decision didn’t go well with the team as RR struggled against spinners on a slow track. Opener Jaiswal and Buttler added just 11 runs for the first wicket. Jaiswal scored 14 runs off 11 balls before falling short while taking a quick single.
However, after his departure, Sanju Samson tried to rescue his team with a quick 30 runs, but eventually failed against spin bowlers. Seven out of 11 RR batters failed to cross single-digit scores. Rashid Khan clinched three wickets while Noor Ahmed clinched two wickets. Apart from them GT skipper Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami and Joshua Little clinched a wicket each.
Here is how fans react to Riyan Parag’s performance:
RR should have played Root over Zampa given their batting line up in the middle lacks the stability and quality. Root can also bowl spin!

He's the most consistent batter across all IPLs. Not an easy thing to do.
