Former India skipper MS Dhoni hit a match-winning six in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka. This meant that the Men In Blue lift the ODI World Cup for the first time since 1983. Every year on April 2, the fans celebrate the anniversary of the World Cup win. The same happened this year as well with some of the former players from that team uploading pictures of the tournament on social media.

Meanwhile, 12 years after this, Mumbai Cricket Association, which hosted the summit clash in 2011 has decided to name a seat in Dhoni’s name. Apparently, the six went over the long-on fence and landed on a seat. That seat will be named after a Ranchi-born player. On April 8, the association will name the seat. On that day, the two most successful Indian T20 League sides, Chennai and Mumbai will play each other.

We will request MS Dhoni for the inauguration: MCA president Amol Kale

MCA president. Amol Kale has revealed that the decision was taken on April 2. He added that the association will be requesting the Chennai skipper to attend the event on April 8

“The MCA took a decision today (Monday) to name a seat inside the stadium after MS Dhoni. The spot will be where his match-winning six landed against Sri Lanka in the final of the 2011 World Cup. We will be requesting MS Dhoni to come to the stadium for the inauguration where he will also be presented with a memento,” Kale told The Indian Express.

The iconic Wankhede Stadium has stands named after Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Vijay Merchant, apart from the Polly Umrigar and Vinoo Mankad Gates.

This will be the first time that a seat will be named after a player not just at the Wankhede but in the whole country. Outside India, however, the idea has been implemented a few times.
