The 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League was one to forget for Chennai as they finished in 9th place in the tournament. In addition to that, the team management also came under a lot of scrutiny for sacking their newly appointed captain Ravindra Jadeja mid-season.
Jadeja was named captain just two days before the season began last year, and the team went on a disastrous run under him, falling out of contention for the knockouts for only the second time in history.
He was sacked, and the position was promptly returned to MS Dhoni, who has been their captain since the first season of the Indian T20 League, leading them to four league titles and reaching the playoffs in almost every season before 2022. Jadeja was dropped from the Playing XI citing an injury for the last few games of the season.
There was also a rift between the two parties on social media as Jadeja deleted all the photos related to the franchise from his Instagram handle. The franchise had also unfollowed the 34-year-old, which had become a huge talking point during Indian T20 League 2022.
The three met for two one-on-one sessions, during which Jadeja reportedly expressed his displeasure with a number of factors. The first was that his captaincy was stripped from him, and the second was that he was unable to perform to his full potential.
Ravindra Jadeja’s poor run in Indian T20 League 2022
Jadeja, who is usually one of Chennai‘s most dangerous players with the bat, ball, and in the field, scored 116 runs at an average of 19 and took five wickets at an economy rate of 7.52. According to Cricbuzz, the position of captain may have become too much for him, affecting his performance.
In the meantime, Jadeja remained in Chennai following India’s third and final ODI against Australia, which the host lost. Chennai will begin their season against the defending champions Gujarat Titans on March 31 in Ahmedabad.
