Mumbai and Kolkata locked horns at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on April 6. The former entered the game with two back-to-back losses. They were looking to register their first win of the ongoing 15th season. The five-time winners were asked to bat first after losing the toss. After which, the Rohit Sharma-led side was tottering at 55/3 but thanks to Suryakumar Yadav (52), Tilak Varma (38*), and Kieron Pollard (22*), they reached 161/4.
In reply, the two-time winners were struggling at 101/5, needing another 61 runs to win in 6.5 overs. However, the explosive innings from Pat Cummins (56* off 15) and a steady fifty from Venkatesh Iyer (50* off 41) ensured the two-time champions won the game by five wickets and four overs to spare. After the game, Sharma joined the post-match conversation with the broadcasters. However, ahead of the chat, he was unhappy with the sound quality of the speaker, installed beside him.

During the chat, the 34-year-old lauded the efforts of Pat Cummins, who single-handedly won the game for his side one when things looked bleak at one stage. The five-time Indian T20 League winning skipper pointed out the mistakes made by his team while batting and bowling.
“Never expected him to come and play like that [on Cummins]. Lot of credit. The pitch got better and better to bat as the game went on. It was holding up initially. Overall it was a good pitch. With the bat we did not start well, in the last 4-5 overs to get 70+ was a great effort from the batting unit. We did not bowl according to the plan. We had the game till the 15th over, but then Cummins was brilliant.â€
