On 18 December 2022, the final of the FIFA World Cup took place in the Lusail Stadium. Argentina took on France in order to win this trophy after a long gap of 36 years. France qualified for the final after defeating Morocco by 2-0 in the semi-final. Argentina defeated Croatia in the other semi-final by a margin of 3-0.
Meanwhile, both teams were looking to win this title for the third time in their respective history. However, all eyes were on Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. Both of them scored the same number of goals in this edition of the tournament. So, fans were eagerly waiting to see the final Golden Boot winner among them.

Speaking of the match, Argentina fans were happy as their team started the game with more intensity than the defending champions. In the 17th minute, Angel Di Maria had a chance to score the opener. But, his effort went over the bar. Then, in the 21st minute, Dembele fouled Di Maria and the referee awarded Argentina a penalty. Lionel Messi did not do any mistakes and he scored the opener from the spot in the 23rd minute. It was Messi’s fourth penalty goal in this tournament. Then, in the 36th minute, Di Maria doubled the lead when Mac Allister assisted him. Thus, the first half ended 2-0.
In the second half, France were looking for a quick response but Argentina got an opportunity to score in the 50th minute. Hugo Lloris saved Rodrigo De Paul’s effort comfortably while the Rosarios had another chance in the 59th minute. Again, France’s goalkeeper came up with a comfortable save against Julian Alvarez’s effort. But. Mbappe scored two goals in the 80th and 81st minute respectively to make it 2-2. But, in the 108th minute, Lionel Messi scored the third goal for Argentina. But, Mbappe completed his hattrick in the 118th minute from the spot, and the game ended 3-3. The game went into a penalty shootout. Finally, in the penalty shootout, Argentina defeated France by 4-2 to win the World Cup.
