Defending champions, France locked horns with Morocco in the FIFA World Cup on 15 December 2022. It was the second semi-final of this ongoing mega event that took place in Al Bayt Stadium. However, France came to this clash after edging past England by a scoreline of 2-1.
On the other hand, Morocco have enjoyed a dream run so far as they defeated Portugal in the quarter-final with a scoreline of 1-0. So, the stage was set for a great battle as the winner of this clash will take on Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the final. However, all eyes were on big-name players like Kylian Mbappe and Hakim Ziyech.

Speaking of the match, France did not take long to score the opener. Theo Hernandez scored that goal in the fifth minute from a close range. It was an acrobatic, cool, and composed finish from the left back. Then, Morocco had a chance to respond instantly in the 10th minute. Azzedine Ounahi hit a curling ball to the goal from a significant distance. But Hugo Lloris had no problem saving it with ease.
Then, in the 17th minute, France were inches close to scoring the second goal. But, Olivier Giroud’s effort hit the post and went behind. After that in the 36th minute, Hakimi came up with a huge clearance to deny Mbappe from scoring the second goal. Then, the loose ball went to Giroud and he just needed to put that ball into an empty net while he had more time and space. But, he managed to hit it wide of the goal. In the 45th minute, Jawad El Yamiq almost scored the equalizer with an overhead kick.
But, his effort hit the post, and finally, the first half ended 1-0. In the second half, Morocco started the game with more attacking threats as they came close to scoring the equalizer 2-3 times within the first 10 minutes. But, somehow, France’s defenders managed to deny them. Then, in the 79th minute, Randal Kolo Muani doubled the lead for France. After that, they managed to hold that lead and the game ended 2-0 in favor of France.
