Indian Cricketer KL Rahul has been granted leave by the Indian Cricket Board in January for personal work. The development has led to speculations about his marriage with Bollywood actor Athiya Shetty. India will host Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20I matches in December-January. According to reports, Rahul is likely to miss the entire series.
Rahul and Athiya have been dating each other for the last three years and are now all set to take their relationship to the next level. Earlier, it was reported that the couple will tie the knot in December but with Rahul getting selected for the Bangladesh tour, that scenario quickly evaporated. Just a few days ago, Suniel Shetty, the veteran actor and Athiya’s father, confirmed that the wedding will soon take place as the couple is looking for near dates.
“I am looking at the possible dates. We are figuring things out with both schedules. Hopefully, soon we will know when and where it will happen,” Sunil Shetty was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times. The same report also revealed that the wedding will take place in Suniel Shetty’s luxury house in Khandala, Maharashtra, and famous names from Bollywood and the cricket world are set to attend.
KL Rahul to play both ODIs and Tests on Bangladesh Tour
Earlier, Rahul was rested for the recent New Zealand tour alongside the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but the right-handed opener now returns to the side for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh starting on December 4. He will also be a part of the squad for the two-match Test series starting on December 14.
Reportedly, Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul have been dating each other for almost three years now. It is said that they both met via a common friend. The duo then started seeing each other more often and fell in love. However, the duo made their relationship official last year on the occasion of Athiya’s birthday. The couple has been seen together several times on their social media handles where they openly share their love for each other. Rahul and Athiya have even starred in an advertisement together.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news of Rahul’s leave:

Dear @klrahul, why you are going for just a short break??? Whole country is waiting for your long break. @BCCI is anyways treating you like a damad but that is hurting India's reputation…please retire #KLRahulRetire
