5 WWE Superstars who could challenge Roman Reigns in Royal Rumble 2023

The WWE Royal Rumble is just weeks away and the fans are leaving no stone unturned to witness their famous athletes take down each other in the epic contest. Being the first major WWE event in the new year, the Royal Rumble is one of the most anticipated and most awaited contests of the month. 

Set to take place on January 28 at Alamodome in San Antonio, this would go down as one of the best events of this month, given that the fans are already on social media naming their predictions for the possible winner. Roman Reigns, the one-time Royal Rumble winner might face challenges this year and we decided to handpick five athletes who could challenge him in the upcoming tournament. 

Here are the five WWE stars who could challenge Roman Reigns in Royal Rumble 2023: 

5) AJ Styles

AJ Styles proved his prowess with the most eliminations (6) during the previous edition and could come as a potential threat to Reigns in the upcoming edition. Enjoying a stupendous record in the WWE, although rattled by injuries, Styles might be a big challenge for the one-time Royal Rumble winner. 

The 45-year-old will give it all to clinch the title for the first time but also will have his eyes set on defeating the holder of the sixth-longest world championship reign. For the unversed, in 2022, the 37-year-old reigned as the world champion for a record 855 days and might face threat from Styles this year. 

4) Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens, who reigned as the universal champion for a whopping period of 188 days, would try his hand once again in the upcoming edition of the Royal Rumble. For the unversed, Owens remained as the champion from August 2016 to March 2017, much to the surprise of his fans. 

Although one has to agree that his records in the contest have not been the best of all, given his recent accomplishments and form, Owens might be one of the leading WWE contenders to clinch the title and might as well come as someone whom Roman Reigns might be cautious of. 

3) Finn Bálor

Finn Bálor, the Irish athlete, was among the list of athletes with the most eliminations alongside Roman Reigns with 4 to his name in 2018 and might challenge the latter this time. However, the star is yet to win the prestigious title and is among the favourites to hit the headlines this time around. 

Although one has to agree that Bálor boasts a massive fanbase across the world and flaunts impressive records in the history of the tournament, much to the dolefulness of his fans, the athlete failed to win the title even once in his career and he might come as a big provocation for Reigns despite not winning the title earlier. 

2) Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins is one of the favourites to win the title in the upcoming year and as it stands, he might come as one of those who could take on Roman Reigns in the upcoming Royal Rumble, although one has to agree that the chances of Rollins winning over Reigns are pretty high this time around. 

For the unversed, Rollins married WWE star Becky Lynch in 2021 and the star has been enjoying a purple patch of late. Rollins has acted in several films like Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, Armed Response, Trouble and Like a Boss. If at all the 36-year-old manages to win over the 2015 Royal Rumble winner in the Royal Rumble 2023, it could come as a turning point in his career history.

John Cena is considered to be a legend when it comes to the WWE and the star has proved it time and time again, whenever he entered the arena, much to the delight of his fans. The veteran is preparing for what can be called the biggest or the mightiest in-ring comeback and he would look to clinch the title right away. 

With a rich history in the tournament, Cena might give it a shot to lift the title for the record third time, to join hands with Steve Austin. Given his proven records, Cena might be the toughest challenge for Roman Reigns in the upcoming Royal Rumble 2023.
