Many times we have seen players and fans helping out the ground staff during the toughest of conditions. Some players have been kind enough to help out the ground staff in their own way. Mohammed Siraj made a kind gesture that won over many hearts. Siraj claimed six wickets during the Asia Cup 2023 final to win Player of the Match. He made the decision to give the $5,000 USD award money to the ground crew at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Let’s take a look at some ways ground staff was helped by international players.

3) Jonty Rhodes helps out the ground staff in SA20

At Kingsmead, former South African batsman Jonty Rhodes was spotted pulling on his covers swiftly. He had been trying his hardest to assist the workers in covering the square.  When the Durban Super Giants’ support personnel arrived on the field, it was clear they were desperate to start the game. 

They took this action to aid the ground crew with covering the square as soon as possible in the face of strong winds and rain. Rain ultimately proved to be a hindrance in Durban’s Super Giants’ match against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape during the SA20, forcing them to split points.

2) David Warner spends time helping the ground staff

Rain stopped Australia’s match against Sri Lanka in the 2023 ODI World Cup. David Warner, a player who is consistently outstanding on the pitch, captured the hearts of the fans when he was seen in Lucknow assisting the grounds crew. 

As the other players hurried to the dugout, he assisted them in placing the blankets on the ground. Warner’s injury from a spectacular grab left him with a bump on his knee. This happened just as the rain started to pour made that moment even more memorable. In the evening, 

1) Fakhar Zaman helping to put the covers on with the ground staff

When rain stopped play during Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2023 match against India in September 2023, batsman Fakhar Zaman won over the hearts of both spectators and experts by helping the ground personnel at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to secure the surface.

Zaman, who is famed for his powerful batting, had shown compassion by helping the ground personnel to preserve the playing field as the Colombo heavens opened up, postponing the important match. Both players and supporters from both teams praised his unanticipated show of compassion.
